Pep Guardiola saw his tManchester City team suffer three consecutive defeats across all competitions for the first time since 2018.
The Premier League Champions lost their fourth Champions league game against Sporting Lisbon. The result came in the hands of Reuben Amorim, who will take charge of Manchester United from November 11, 2024, after the last international break of the year.
Guardiola was speaking after the game when he was asked about his team's performance
He said,
I cannot say much when you lose 4-1. The result is there. Congratulations Sporting de Lisboa for the game.We made a fantastic first-half. Now we are struggling to score when they create and we concede what the opponents not do much. Bournemouth aside as they were much, much better. The first-half was really, really good. From my point of view, we scored a goal, and created a lot. But every pass, simple things, we miss sometimes. They can run, and they punished us a little bit. It can happen. After the third and the fourth, we have to avoid it. Emotionally we were not stable enough and this competition you have to be stable. 2-1 is 2-1. Many minutes to happen, but we cannot give away the two actions for the third and fourth goal, we have to be emotionally more and more stable. The young lad [Jahmai Simpson-Pusey] played incredible. Rico [Lewis] as well… When you play a lot of games, you can't play with the same line-up, or the same back-four. All the season we've had problems from day one, but it is what it is.Now is a difficult moment in terms of results but I'm here. I want to be here! And I want to fight and not give up, I like this challenge that as a manager I have ahead of me, and who wants to follow me, follow us, they will be there!"
Pep Guardiola will hope that his team gets back to winning in ways when they host Brighton at the Etihad in the Premier League.
