#Paris2024: Everything you need to know about Julien Alfred

Julien Alfred wrote her name and Saint Lucia into the history book as she stormed in the women's 100m title at the Paris 2024 Olympic games.

The 23-year-old breezed her way into the 100-meter final to win the race by a national record 10.72 seconds. America's world champion Sha'Carri Richardson took silver in 10.87, with compatriot Melissa Jefferson (10.92) third at the Paris 2024 games.

Fourth-placed, Daryll Neita produced the best finish by a British female athlete in an Olympic sprint final for 64 years but that will be of little consolation in her pursuit of a first individual global medal. Her British team-mates Dina Asher-Smith and Imani-Lara Lansiquot earlier failed to make the final, while Jamaican sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce withdrew from the competition before her semi-final.

Who is Julien Alfred?

Julien Alfred became the first person to win Saint Lucia's first-ever medal at the Olympics. She was born in 2001 in Ciceron, the 23-year-old had a tough start to life as she lost her father at the age of 12. She attended high school in both Saint Lucia and then in Jamaica when she was a little older.

She then went to the University of Texas during the 2018-19 academic year and that is where she studied Youth and Community Studies.

Her career crowning moment was winning the gold medal at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in the women's 60m. She also got a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in the 100m races.
