Grammy Awards Postponed Over Omricon Spike

The 64th Grammy Awards has been postponed due to a nationwide increase in COVID-19 cases propelled by the Omicron variant.

The 64th Grammy Awards was to take place on January 31st but will be rescheduled for a future date. This was revealed by the Recording Academy and CBS said in a joint statement on Wednesday, 5th of January, 2022.

After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show.

The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.

The Academy, on November 23 released the official nomination list and was chosen from projects released between September 1, 2020, and September 30, 2021. Jon Batiste led with 11 total nods, with Justin Bieber and R&B artist H.E.R coming in second with 8 nominations.

Rapper Jay-Z also made history, as he became the most nominated artist with 83 nods, after getting three nominations.
