3. Tiwa Savage

For the first time in 5 years, since Notjustok.com started #TheList series, a female act breaks into the Top 3! And it’s none other than Mavin Records diva, Tiwa Savage!

It’s been a rollercoaster ride for Tiwa Savage in recent years. After enjoying arguably her best year in 2014 (#4 on #TheList), personal issues crept in, severely slowing down Tiwa’s progress home and abroad. By 2016, after re-adjusting to life as a mother, Tiwa went back to the drawing board, re-focused herself, and came back storming into the scene.

In 2017, Tiwa Savage continued her resurgence by dropping mega-hits like All Over and Ma Lo. Her critically-acclaimed “Sugarcane” EP got massive co-signs from megastars like Chris Martin and Jidenna. She also performed on global stages like Jay-Z’s Made In America, Ghana Meets Naija 2017, Afrimma 2017 (Dallas), One Africa Music Fest (Dubai), among others.

The most noticeable change in Tiwa’s strategy in 2017, however, has been her willingness to collaborate with African stars across the continent and in the diaspora. The stellar list includes Fuse ODG, eMTee, Awilo Longomba, Diamond Platnumz, Donald, and Jidenna.

Tiwa’s international media presence was superb as she was featured on CNN African Voices, and also made BBC’s 100 Most Inspirational & Innovative Women 2017.

On the Awards side, Tiwa Savage has pretty much dominated proceedings, sweeping the “Best Female” Award at Afrimma, AFRIMA, City People Awards. She’s also the overwhelming favorite for Soundcity MVPs and the Headies, with both scheduled to hold soon.

All in all, it’s been an amazing year for Tiwa Savage. Long may it continue!
